Those unfamiliar with the pecking order of Israel’s pols are left in the dark about their hierarchy of ‘no go’ zones – for Islamic missile squads.

This blogger unfortunately knows the score, hence her frustration at the leadership’s failure to lead, for well over a decade. As indicated previously, Israel’s political leadership were (until now) gripped by PC paralysis; hewing to western leadership’s dictates: Do Not Harm the Gazans ! (or other Arab/Muslims) who lunge for Israel’s underbelly.

‘Palestinian rocket barrage escalates for Egyptian PM’s Gaza visit. Israeli ground forces build up’

As Hamas government officials greeted Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Kandil on his arrival for a short visit to the Gaza Strip, Friday morning, Nov. 16, Palestinian rocket crews stepped up their barrage against Israel. After Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu acceded to Cairo’s request to suspend military action for the visit, air strikes were resumed over northern Gaza to counter Palestinians fire across the South: Dozens of rockets exploded in Beersheba, Ashdod, Hof Ashkelon, Ashkelon, Shear Hanegev, Ofakim, Sderot, Eshkol and Kiryat Malachi. There were several panic victims and direct hits to houses.

Thursday night, long-range Fajr rockets exploded in Greater Tel Aviv region, Israel’s urban and commercial heartland (3 million population) – two landing near Bat Yam or the sea and one or two between Rishon Lezion and Palmachim.

IDF armored, artillery and mechanized infantry units continued to stream to the Gaza border Thursday and Friday, gathering at jumping-off positions for crossing into the enclave in the next stage of the operation. Reservists are reporting for duty on the orders the defense minister issued for 30,000 call-ups. They are reporting at schools in various towns which were converted to registration stations.
Schools in the heavily battered south remain closed indefinitely and all locations within 40 kilometers stay on emergency footing for rocket attacks.

The IDF is rushing forward the completion of the fifth Iron Dome battery after the first four stopped some 150 incoming rockets in the last 48 hours.

DEBKAfile: Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz and the high IDF command are pushing for the ground operation, Stage B of the Pillar of Cloud operation, to start without delay. The prime minister and defense minister prefer to wait.

Thursday night, as the operation wound up its second day, the Israeli Air Force intensified its action, conducting 250 strikes across the territory, supported from the Mediterranean by the Israeli Navy. They targeted rocket-launching positions, stores, silos, arms and ordnance dumps and the eight tunnels snaking under the border fence for use in terrorist attacks and exploding booby-traps. A generator was hit near the residence of Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.

Our sources report that Thursday, some international airlines cancelled flights to Israel. International airline officials told DEBKAfile that security in central Israel is uncertain after Palestinian rockets from Gaza reached the Tel Aviv area. They fear Ben Gurion international airport at Lod may be next.

The sources noted that the landing of a rocket in the sea off Bat Yam posed a serious aviation hazard because it occurred under the flight path of passenger planes bound for and departing Israel. Intense Israeli Air Force activity over Gaza was making commercial flights additionally “hazardous if not impossible,” they said.
Air France was the first to reschedule flights and advise passengers to call in before setting out for their airport of departure.
Also on Thursday, the US embassy in Tel Aviv advised its nationals and staff to avoid non-essential travel to southern Israel and the children of staff to stay home from their schools in the Tel Aviv area.
A skeleton staff would operate the embassy with most of the diplomats and personnel taking the day off and staying home for their own safety, in case Yarkon Street where the building is situated were to come under Palestinian rocket fire.”

And it didn’t have to be this way….at least if they paid attention to ALL the evidence documented above!

Whither goes one part of tiny Israel, so too does the rest. Hopefully, our leadership, as well as centrally located Jews, learn their lessons well!

Israeli ‘Hasbara’…Informational Campaigns…How Effective/Necessary Are They In General? Prof Paul Eidelberg Enlightens…Commentary By Adina Kutnicki

‘Hasbara’ is Hebrew coinage for Israel’s informational campaign abroad. Its origins lie in facilitating the truth about Israel’s history (including its defensive/offensive wars), as well as its myriad – and out-sized – accomplishments.

And the fact that it is necessary, to continually beat the same drum, attests to the delicate tightrope Israel is forced to walk, unlike ANY other nation in the world. But even so, the paltry budget assessed to effectuate this delicate task is less than a piker’s. This blogger knows this for a fact…don’t ask how she knows.

So, it begs the question: if the leadership believes in its efficacy, why don’t they back it up by more than a pittance of funds?

And it is not as if young adults (unaffiliated with officialdom), hither and yon, aren’t doing their part, and without much more than “out-of-the-box” thinking.

Consider: one such major effort (out of many others) has been undertaken by none other than this blogger’s son, Chaim Kutnicki.

While a student at MIT ‘HIBUR’ was born; an exchange program between MIT & its Israeli counterpart, the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology – http://www1.technion.ac.il/en). Its full-fledged program rocks on. The seeds were planted as a student-founded hasbara initiative, and they can be found here:

“In Hebrew, the word “Hibur” means connection — an appropriate name for a program designed to create a connection between MIT and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel.

Hibur: An MIT-Technion Link is an MIT-Hillel-sponsored program started by students last year.

“We see the Technion and MIT as a perfect match,” said third-year electrical engineering and computer science major Chaim Kutnicki, one of Hibur’s co-founders.

Kutnicki was interested in studying at the Technion following his freshman year at MIT. While exploring the possibility, he found that many professors had formed personal relationships with the Technion over the years, but that “there were no institutional frameworks in place,” he said.

Kutnicki went to Israel on his own, but when he returned, he and co-founders Maxim Shusteff (S.M. 2003) and Sam Korb (S.B. 2005) sought funding for a program that would make it easier for future students to study at the Technion and vice versa.

“Hibur really started as a grassroots effort,” said Kutnicki.

The three secured funding for Hibur’s first year from the Combined Jewish Philanthropies Boston-Haifa Connection, Avi Chai Grants of International Hillel, MIT Hillel’s Israel Initiative and the Technion.

In its first year, 2005, the program attracted 18 MIT members, including both graduate and undergraduate students.

Over the course of the year, students bonded through a pen-pal program, video conferencing and conference calls and then finally, groups from each university visited the other’s campus.

MIT participants were matched with 14 Hibur members in Haifa. They exchanged weekly e-mails, becoming friends through the exchange of ideas, photos and personal anecdotes.

Sophomore Talia Gershon of materials science and engineering played matchmaker, trying to connect students with similar interests. It was a success, she said. “The relationships became more than just professional.”

Kutnicki agreed. “There are a number of people who are actually pretty good friends now,” he said.

Students and faculty used technology to deepen the bond, holding a series of video lectures simultaneously in Haifa and Cambridge.

MIT speakers at the lectures included Institute Professors Robert Langer and Joel Moses as well as Frederick Salvucci, a senior lecturer in the Center for Transportation and Logistics and the former Massachusetts secretary of transportation, and members of the Technion faculty.

During the video conferences, MIT students were able to sit facing a screen showing the Technion students, with the speaker in the middle. After months of corresponding via e-mail, “it was very exciting to virtually meet,” said Miriam Rosenblum, Jewish chaplain and director of MIT Hillel. Rosenblum has served as advisor to Hibur.

The conferences also afforded students and faculty a chance to glimpse the cutting-edge research at each other’s schools.

“The presentations were fascinating and informative,” said Rosenblum, who recalled one small quirk: a time delay, which sometimes meant the students on the live side laughed at a joke the other side did not hear for another couple of seconds. “They could tell when something was about to be funny,” she said.

Twelve MIT participants made the first campus visit, arriving in Haifa on May 22. In the two weeks they spent in Israel, they toured the Technion, attended classes, visited companies, went on day trips, had dinner in the homes of host families and attended a holiday bonfire on the beach before coming back to the States on June 1. “It was an intense schedule,” said Rosenblum.

When the Israeli students came to Boston in September, the schedule was similar. Still, students found the time to form relationships — and potential partnerships — that will last a lifetime. “It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life,” said Gershon.

Hibur continues to evolve. At the end of 2005, Hibur accepted applications from MIT students interested in internships in Israel during the summer of 2006. They are currently matching resumes with companies.

“We are working on several different levels,” said Kutnicki, who hopes that someday Hibur will become an official MIT program.

In September 2005, Chancellor Phillip Clay spoke at a faculty and administrator dinner held for the Technion students. “Hibur is one of a growing number of programs that allows students to get a taste of what it is like to work in an international setting,” he said. “I believe this is an undervalued part of undergraduate education at MIT and one that we should support for more students.”

‘Hebrew-Speaking Gentiles’

“A most pervasive and pernicious error in Israel is the belief in hasbara, that is, in information campaigns to improve Israel’s image abroad, especially as concerns the Arab-Jewish conflict. Not that hasbara should be ignored, but the importance attached to “marketing” Israel is grossly exaggerated and even indicative of a national flaw.

Too many Jews believe that Israel’s problem in foreign affairs consists in changing the attitudes of the nations when the real problem is to change their own attitudes, including their fearful concern about Israel’s image.

Politicians and intellectuals constantly boast that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. By so doing they condition their counterparts in the democratic world to expect Israel, far more than any Arab despot, to make political and territorial concessions in the so-called peace process. Only democratic Israel is expected to “take risks for peace” which no other government would dare ask of its people.

The fact that Israel is reputed as a democracy does not win the support so much as the contempt and even the hostility of many gentile politicians abroad, their statements to the contrary notwithstanding. It can be stated as an axiom: The more Israel’s government seeks to win the approval of the nations, the more it will be despised by the nations.

By seeking the approval of others, Israel’s political leaders must imitate others, which means they must act less like Jews and more like gentiles. Such self-abasement betrays their lack of pride in the Jewish heritage, and this is exactly why Israel is so often humiliated.

Of course, Israel’s leaders attribute the negative attitude of the nations to anti-Semitism. Here they often confuse cause and effect. For the truth is that a great deal of anti-Semitism is the consequence of Israel’s failure to comport itself as a Jewish nation. Indeed, anti-Semitism serves the historical function of reminding Jews that they are Jews. Not only will assimilation fail to placate the nations; it will arouse their contempt.

Especially appalling is the imitation of American culture, which is hardly a culture. How can there be a culture in a multicultural society where all “lifestyles” are morally equal, where moral relativism is rampant—the logical consequence of American democracy. Hence it is sheer folly to try to improve Israel’s image abroad by extolling “Israeli democracy.” It is precisely the banalities of Israeli democracy that undermines Israel’s image.

I will anticipate two objections to this iconoclastic statement. One is this: “What would you have Israel become, a theocracy?” A theocracy, however, is a state ruled by a priestly caste, which is foreign to Judaism. In Judaism there is no “clergy” and no “laity.” The most authentic form of Jewish leadership is that of the teacher, whose power is not political but intellectual and moral.

A second objection is this: “Israel’s economic and military dependence on the U.S. prevents it from taking a more independent stand in Arab-Jewish affairs.” Here I am reminded of a remark by former U.S. Undersecretary of State Joseph Sisco to Israeli author Shmuel Katz in 1989: “I want to assure you, Mr. Katz, that if we were not getting full value for our money, you would not get a cent from us.”

That same year a conference on “American Aid to Israel and Its Effect on the Israeli Economy” was held at Tel Aviv University. The country’s leading economists, industrialists, and banking figures concluded that American aid to Israel results in “loss of motivation, absence of will to be independent, a craving for luxuries, waste, and emphasis on immediate fulfillment rather than long-term planning… American aid corrupts the economy, inflates the public sector without justification and indirectly causes high taxation and growing deficits.”

In short, the growth in American aid leads to a decline in productivity, the rapid transfer of capital from investment to consumption, and the sharp increase in government spending. From this it should be obvious that Israel’s political elites have a vested interest in American aid. But this makes Israel all the more inclined to imitate American democracy and thus become all the more contemptible.

Needed is not better hasbara so much as but a better system of government, one composed of JEWS, not Hebrew-speaking gentiles.”

One may have their own ideas on the issue, and surely others are free to disagree. But mine are more in line with Professor Paul Eidelberg’s, but with a caveat.

The above are the yin and yang of Israel’s struggle. On the one hand, the first book demonstrates the incredible, incontestable, humanity-enriching accomplishments of tiny Israel. The other attests to the heart of the matter – the constant battle against fact and fantasy; the fuel of the wars waged against us.

IF the above are not convincing enough, then the rest is a waste of time and energy, better spent elsewhere. One has to recognize when enough is enough!

DESPITE all the punditry via media airwaves (both in Israel and abroad), the readers should bear uppermost in mind: the IDF has stepped into Gaza for a major offensive. NO more wishy washy…finger in the air…tit for tat responses.

Thank you dear G-d…for bringing our leaders out of the darkness!

Key to the operation is not only found in the rubble and targeted strikes, as evidenced by plumes of black clouds over the Gazan coast, but in the call-up of IDF reservists. It is a main barometer of what is coming to the fore – a clean up of the Strip, akin to a colonoscopy on steroids.

NOW, when a root canal is stopped midstream, this should be the expected result. In other words, had Israel’s political leaders (you know who you are!) finished the Gazan terror cleaning – during Operation Cast Lead in late 2008 into early 2009…a smoke & mirrors operation…shock & awe show – the current house sweeping would be a lot less painful. Undoubtedly.

Hardly a military genius, but as evidenced above, an astute student of geo-politics and Islamic jihadists. It begs the questions: why is yours truly more in sync with expected/intended consequences, than Israel’s ‘leading lights’? And this is not as it should be!

‘IDF digs in for long haul after sustained rocket fire kills three Israelis’

As the rockets kept coming through Wednesday night – and the first three fatalities Thursday morning, Nov. 15 – the cautious lift in Israeli spirits generated by the death of Ahmed Jabari, who fashioned Hamas into a paramilitary machine of terror, and the destruction of dozens of missile sites in Gaza, gave way to resignation for a long haul before southern Israel is free of its decade-long rocket nightmare.

Thursday morning, a rocket from Gaza killed three Israelis in Kiryat Malachi. By then, some 120 rockets – mostly targeting the major towns of Beersheba and Ashdod, but also smaller locations – had followed Jabari’s death. Iron Dome intercepted 27.The first reserve units had been mobilized for possible ground action in Gaza to supplement the air offensive against the Palestinian missile arsenal.

But Operation Pillar of Cloud’s first part showed a favorable balance: Palestinian missile fire was as erratic as ever, although intense; Iron Dome filtered out the rockets aimed at Israel’s major towns; Israeli casualties were relatively low though painful; and the enemy in Gaza was decapitated – for now.

But most of all, the Palestinians and their allies in Tehran and Hizballah suddenly discovered that the old IDF had come roaring back.
In the only former major Israeli operation in Gaza, Cast Lead (late 2008, early 2009), the IDF was slow, unwieldy and unfocused. Its counter-terror offensive was foreshortened by heavy diplomatic pressure before achieving anything, owing to the government’s lack of resolve. In the 2006 Lebanon War, the army was stalled before developing an effective tactical offensive.

The IDF of 2012 is in a different class, recalling its rapid-fire performance in the Six-Day War then fought on multiple fronts.
In just a few hours late Wednesday, Nov. 14, Pillar of Cloud achieved more than Cast Lead managed in weeks: It was driven by clockwork, integrated intelligence by the Shin Bet and Military Intelligence, precise, surgical air force strikes and a command-and-control with fast reflexes which recalled Israel’s military skills of 45 years ago.

The rapid destruction of scores of Fajr-3 and Fajr-5 rockets, whose respective ranges of 45 and 75 kilometers placed Israel’s heartland in line of Palestinian strikes, compared with the destruction of the Egyptian air force on the ground in the early hours of the 1967 war, rather than the bombardment of Hizballah’s long-range missiles in 2006 which failed to draw its sting.

In 1967, the Egyptian army had to fight in Sinai without air cover. In 2012, the Hamas rulers of the Gaza Strip were stripped of their key commander and terror strategist and lost substantial, though not all, its missile arsenal.
Wherever Operation Pillar of Cloud goes next – and the IDF is preparing for a long, hard haul – Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz deserve kudos for their performance thus far.
It may be said that Israel’s Gaza operation did in fact start on Oct. 24 in Sudan with the attack on the Yarmouk complex manufacturing Iranian missiles near Khartoum. Former Military Intelligence chief Amos Yadlin Wednesday confirmed DEBKAfile’s exclusive report that the factory had housed the emergency reserve stocks of the Palestinian Hamas and Jihad Islami in the Gaza Strip.

Its destruction contributed to their loss of infrastructure.
The tough part of the Israeli operation to eliminate the terrorist war peril hovering over southern Israel from the Gaza Strip is still to come. For now, Hamas is at a loss for a strategic answer to the IDF offensive – unless one is provided by Tehran or Hizballah coming to its rescue.

Designed, inter alia, to ensure the survival of states in a persistently anarchic world – a world originally fashioned after the Thirty Years War and the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 – this law includes the “inherent” right of national self-defense. Such right may be exercised not only after an attack has already been suffered, but, sometimes, also, in advance of an expected attack.

What can now be done, lawfully, about relentless Iranian nuclear weapons development? Do individual states, especially those in greatest prospective danger from any expressions of Iranian nuclear aggression, have a legal right to strike first defensively? In short, could such a preemption ever be permissible under international law?

For the United States, preemption remains a part of codified American military doctrine. But is this national doctrine necessarily consistent with the legal and complex international expectations of anticipatory self-defense?

To begin, international law derives from multiple authoritative sources, including international custom. Although written law of the UN Charter (treaty law) reserves the right of self-defense only to those states that have already suffered an attack (Article 51), equally valid customary law still permits a first use of force if the particular danger posed is “instant, overwhelming, leaving no choice of means and no moment for deliberation.” Stemming from an 1837 event in jurisprudential history known as the Caroline, which concerned the unsuccessful rebellion in Upper Canada against British rule, this doctrine builds purposefully upon a seventeenth-century formulation of Hugo Grotius.

Self-defense, says the classical Dutch scholar in, The Law of War and Peace (1625), may be permitted “not only after an attack has already been suffered, but also in advance, where the deed may be anticipated.” In his later text of 1758,The Right of Self-Protection and the Effects of Sovereignty and Independence of Nations, Swiss jurist Emmerich de Vattel affirmed: “A nation has the right to resist the injury another seeks to inflict upon it, and to use force and every other just means of resistance against the aggressor.”

Article 51 of the UN Charter, limiting self-defense to circumstances following an attack, does not override the customary right of anticipatory self-defense. Interestingly, especially for Americans, the works of Grotius and Vattel were favorite readings of Thomas Jefferson, who relied heavily upon them for crafting the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.

We should also recall Article VI of the US Constitution, and assorted US Supreme Court decisions. These proclaim, straightforwardly, that international law is necessarily part of the law of the United States.

The Caroline notes an implicit distinction between preventive war (which is never legal), and preemptive war. The latter is not permitted merely to protect oneself against an emerging threat, but only when the danger posed is “instant” and “overwhelming.” Using such a literal framework, it could first appear doubtful that the United States may now construct a persuasive legal argument for preemption against Iran. This would be the case even if the planned American defense operation were carefully limited to exclusively nuclear military targets.

Nonetheless, we live in very different times. Grotius, Vattel and those later jurists who were focused on the Carolinecould never have anticipated the genuinely existential risks soon to be posed by a nuclear Iran. Understandably, the permissibility of anticipatory self-defense is far greater in the nuclear age than in prior centuries. Today, after all, it is easy to imagine, simply waiting impotently to suffer an enemy nuclear attack could be entirely irrational. Evensuicidal.

A special danger is posed by terrorist group surrogates. If not prevented from receiving nuclear weapons or fissile materials from patron states, such proxies (e.g., Hezbollah, Hamas, al-Qaeda) could inflict enormous harms upon targets that would be out of range of nuclear-tipped missiles.

The United States is not the only country at risk from Iranian nuclear weapons. Israel is at greater risk. There is, however, a long and respected international legal tradition that Great Powers have proportionately great responsibilities. This would suggest, from a management of world power standpoint, that America must remain ever-mindful of a potential nuclear threat to other, far smaller states.

We are presently the only country that may still have an operational capability to conduct a successful preemptive mission against Iran’s illegal nuclear weapons program. Ideally, such a resort to anticipatory self-defense would be broadly multilateral, and also formally endorsed by the United Nations. But, we don’t yet live in an ideal world, and, even now, the most plausible alternative to any American defensive strike on Iran would likely be a fully nuclear and possibly irrational Iran. Should this non-preemption scenario be allowed to play out as actual policy, America, in compensation for its new strategic vulnerabilities, would then need to clarify that its response to any attack on the U.S. or its vital interests and allies in the Middle East would be instant and overwhelming.

In the precise language of contemporary world politics, irrational does not mean “crazy.” It indicates, rather, that national self-preservation is valued less than certain other leadership preferences. With Iran, these preferences would be closely associated with various fundamental religious beliefs and expectations.

It is unlikely that we could ever see a stable nuclear balance of terror in the Middle East. Rather, in the foreseeable future, Iran – irrespective of any expected retaliatory consequences – might conceivably justify using nuclear weapons against certain “infidels” or “apostates.” In such realistic cases, nuclear deterrence, of course, would be immobilized.

Iran, in these cases, would become a suicide-bomber writ large; a “suicide-state.”

Two successive administrations, Bush and Obama, publicly pledged, as official U.S. policy, that a nuclear armed Iran would be unacceptable. If we are to take this bipartisan pledge seriously, we must now finally acknowledge that sanctions alone will not work. At the same time, it may already be very late for anticipatory self-defense to work against Iran.

In any event, preemption would now come at a very high cost. But, we also need to inquire, what would be the alternative cost to us of allowing a militarily nuclear Iran? Economic sanctions, cyber-defense, targeted killings and all-out cyber-war may effectively delay Iranian nuclear weapons manufacture and deployment, but they won’t stop it altogether.

International law is not a suicide pact. Even now, even after so much critical time has already been wasted with regard to mounting effective defensive measures against Iran, anticipatory self-defense should not be dismissed out of hand. If, after all, the calculated benefits of any such option were judged to exceed the expected gains of all other available options, such a lawful preemption would still emerge as America’s rational or preferred choice.

And just for the record, there are still a handful of Dems who are way more patriotic than their RINO counterparts. Heretical thinking. Be that as it may, witnessing the most radical revolutionary RED forces, co-joining with their GREEN jihadist counterparts (to ruin the free world), is every freedom seeker’s foremost concern. Or it should be.

“According to two well-vetted sources with intimate knowledge of the CIA operations and events in Benghazi, the resignation of CIA Director David Petraeus is directly related to the testimony he was expected to provide before a closed-door hearing next week before the Senate Intelligence Committee. Sources close to the controversy, citing the need for anonymity due to their positions, stated that Barack Hussein Obama was aware of the CIA director’s indiscretions “long before” the November 6, 2012 elections, and knew about the FBI’s investigative findings weeks before the election, but “erected a firewall” to prevent any disclosure before November 6th.

A second intelligence source stated that “the announcement [of Petraeus’ resignation] was carefully timed. It was announced in a Friday afternoon news dump three days after the election, and days before the Senate Intelligence Committee was to hear his testimony, despite the President having knowledge of these events weeks ago. Friday’s announcement served two purposes; it kept controversy from emerging before the election, while allowing the administration to buy time regarding testimony by a federal official about CIA’s involvement in Benghazi.”“What I do know is that an integral part of that firewall involved having information on Petraeus that would potentially damage his career, legacy and marriage. A sort of political blackmail, if you will. What I don’t know, but suspect, is that Petraeus was placed in the unenviable but self-inflicted position of having to choose between providing truthful testimony under oath and having his professional and personal life destroyed while systematically being impeached due to this incident, or keeping quiet before the Senate Intelligence Committee,” stated one source.
Both sources agreed that it is difficult to speculate whether Petraeus decided to extract himself from the leverage that the controversy had over him by the Obama regime on his terms, or whether his resignation was conducted solely by the terms of the Obama regime. Otherwise, both sources agreed that his resignation would buy the administration some valuable time, and the change in status of Petraeus as the active CIA director would also have an effect on the manner in which he is required to provide testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee. The change of status, from an active CIA official and government employee, to a citizen bound by far reachingconfidentiality agreements, would change his ability to testify before the committee. “He can also lawyer-up,” added one source.The resignation of David Petraeus is merely one, albeit a very high-profile one, of several coordinated moves to push any meaningful investigation into the events of Benghazi well into the future. “Obama and other high ranking officials learned many valuable lessons from Fast & Furious,” a fact agreed upon by both sources. Fast & Furious is the name given to the gun running operation from the U.S. into Mexico. “They understand that the longer they can delay and obstruct the truth, reassign key personnel with important information to positions and locations that hinder any meaningful investigation, the more the public interest wanes. As the public loses interest, it also takes the pressure off Congress from getting to the bottom of things.”

According to another CIA source, the resignation of Christopher Kubasik, president and CEO-elect of defense and aerospace company Lockheed Martin, announced on the same day as Petraeus, might have ties to the events at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. “There is a relationship between Lockheed Martin and the defense department, as well as the CIA, that ties into current events in Turkey and Syria. This is particularly relevant in the operation taking place in Benghazi and when investigation into where the ‘black-ops’ money went. Don’t forget, Congress appropriated money, at the behest of Obama, for humanitarian aid, not weapons.”

Like Petraeus, Kubasik cited an “inappropriate relationship” for his resignation. “The timing is beyond coincidental, and the operation much too big for this to be merely coincidental.”

Following the testimony of State Department staffers about the lack of diplomatic security at the Benghazi consulate, Issa sent President Obama an official letter demanding to know why the administration reduced U.S. security in Libya while the country was still emerging from a civil war. The State Department contracted a small security firm to provide untrained and ill-prepared guards recruited from the Libyan population.

Issa said a witness at the committee’s hearing testified that the decision not to call back a 16-person security team over the embassy’s objection was made as part of efforts to normalize relations with Libya, despite Democrats’ denials.

“Americans … deserve a complete explanation about your administration’s decision to accelerate a normalized presence in Libya at what now appears to be at the cost of endangering lives,” Issa wrote. “These critical foreign policy decisions are not made by low- or mid-level career officials – they are typically made through a structured and well-reasoned process that includes the National Security Council at the White House. The ultimate responsibility rests with you as the president of the United States.”

The letter to Obama was accompanied by the release of 116 pages of documents detailing the embassy’s requests for more security.

In his letter, Issa respectfully requested that President Obama provide answers to questions about the decision to remove security personnel from Libya, and how deeply the National Security Council was involved. National Security Adviser Thomas Donilon is being touted as a possible Secretary of State in a second Obama administration, but Republicans have alleged that Donilon is the official who leaked classified information regarding a cyberattack on Iran and a foiled plot by al Qaeda’s wing in Yemen to blow up a U.S.-bound flight.

Issa’s committee letter to Obama also stated that the White House “has not been straightforward with the American people in the aftermath of the attack. The issue of who knew what and when about the details of the attack has become a central source of partisan sparring on Libya, with the administration saying it simply made intelligence public as it became available.”

What has angered many of Obama’s critics was his campaign trip to Las Vegas in the middle of the Libyan violence against America. Obama supporters claim he was always in touch with his security team.

But former police chief Ronald Miller said, “Whether Obama thought it was a protest, a terrorist attack or didn’t know which, he should have called every intelligence and state department official involved into the oval office and stayed until he learned the facts and had taken action to protect all foreign service personnel.”

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that Egyptian military intelligence chief Gen. Mohamed al-Assad entered the scene Sunday, Nov. 11 to try his hand at brokering yet another truce. He has his work cut out – not just to bring the Gaza government and Israel together, but also to line up the rival factions of Gaza in concurrence.
The Egyptian general knows from past experience that the best he can achieve is a tacit, fragile truce to which Hamas and Israel acquiesce silently on the principle of reciprocity: both sides must hold their fire and if the Palestinian go back to violence, the IDF will hit back.

Similar arrangements have rarely held up in the past beyond a few weeks at most. But this time, new elements have crept in. Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and his government, who until now stood in the wings of military activity, decided Sunday to pledge solidarity with the Palestinian missile jihad against Israel.
After all, the Islamist Hamas movement is dedicated by its charter to Israel’s destruction.
The view in Washington, which is involved in the chase for a truce, is that Haniyeh’s action promises that any ceasefire will be short-lived, measured in days rather than weeks. Gaza’s rulers are convinced they are well placed to exploit the Israeli prime minister’s irresolution as he goes into a campaign for reelection (on Jan. 22, 2013) by turning up the heat on Israel.

But Netanyahu has another kind of pressure to consider. The million-strong constituency of southern Israel may not let him get away with a temporary, fragile stoppage of the rockets that make their lives unbearable. They may make him pay for inaction at the ballot-box.

Netanyahu must also take into consideration that a major IDF operation in Gaza might risk igniting two more war fronts, should Hamas’ allies Syria and the Lebanese Hizballah come to its aid.

Regarding Syria, Israel fired a Tamuz guided missile 4 kilometers into Syria as a warning to Damascus that Israel would not tolerate ordnance from the Syrian civil war continuing to fall on Israeli Golan. It was a warning shot after a shell landed in Moshav Alonei Bashan.
DEBKAfile’s intelligence sources reveal that Damascus send back through UNDORF peacemakers a message of reassurance that the spillover into Israel would stop. Israel was given to understand that the mortar position responsible for the stray shell landing in the moshav had been silenced.

The singular agenda of all branches of government, whose members number far less than the population of our vast country they are supposed to serve, has met with little resistance as they push forward their agenda. But don’t look to the mainstream talking heads on the radio and television airwaves to step out of their comfort zones or put down their carefully worded scripts to point this out. Even in the wake of an election that further galvanized the political and social divide, they will continue to distract the masses with political theater as we are being conditioned and controlled. Instead of falling into political lockstep that will ultimately lead to our bondage, I call on everyone to wake up and resist this incremental rending of our liberties – while we still can. While we still have a Constitution that remains somewhat intact, we can exercise our God-given rights as Americans at a specific mechanism that has an extremely soft legal underbelly and is vulnerable to unified resistance: the TSA.

Unite & take a stand while we still can

In less than two weeks, airports, bus stations and highways across the country will be filled with holiday travelers during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. It is here that we will come face to face with the most visible components of a tyrannical, out of control government: the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Despite its $8 billion per year price tag to the American taxpayers, the TSA has never once stopped a terrorist or terrorist plot. TSA agents are not commissioned law enforcement officers nor have they undergone any law enforcement training. Yet, they have been given the ability to strip away the rights from every non-thinking American – because we have allowed them.

Since becoming part of the Department of Homeland Security on March 25, 2003, the overreach by the TSA has significantly increased. From nonsensical security theater to a program of aggravated assault against every American, we have mindlessly allowed a motley crew of intellectually hobbled and marginally coherent federal employees to herd us, like cattle, into backscatter body scanners that have been linked to an increased risk of cancer, and millimeter wave body scanners that are potentially damaging to our DNA. Like cattle, a mind-numbed American populace dutifully complies in this process of control and conditioning that has nothing to do with security.

We are being conditioned to accept, as normal, a humiliating and degrading process that is completely un-Constitutional. Everyone must see it for exactly what it is – an increasingly threatening psychological operation to enforce compliance to an out-of-control government. Remember the early years of the Nazi regime; they used criminals and deviants to control the Jews, Christians and other targets of their oppression. Today, among the TSA employment rolls are people with criminal histories and dubious pasts. Anyone denying this would do well to research the growing list of complaints against TSA employees, from theft to outright physical abuse.

We were told that it was really a “protest turned violent” over an anti-Islam video that had exactly seventeen views on YouTube, being uploaded two months before, averaging less than one view per day.

CIA director David Petraeus towed the party line and parroted this ludicrous YouTube story, backing up Obama in testimony to Congress.

And when you cross a Chicago thug like Obama, payback is swift and lethal.

Petraeus needed to be taken out—but after the election—and before he was scheduled to testify under oath this time to Congress about what he knew about Benghazi.

Petraeus’ resignation had nothing to do with an affair. In fact, the affair had been over for months. The FBI had been investigating literally thousands of emails that Petraeus had sent to his former paramour, biographer Paula Broadwell, for longer than that and could have dropped the guillotine months before if they wanted to.

It was rather about paybacks and keeping the American people in the dark about the real reason Petraeus had to be kept quiet about Benghazi: gunrunning. Gunrunning of tens of thousands of Libyan weapons to the al-Qaeda-linked Syrian rebels.”

Though not often viewed as a Jewish problem, drunk driving should be recognized for what it is – a deadly concern to all, even within the Jewish community. And whether we admit it or not, the Jewish community has more than its share of alcoholics, and by extrapolation, drunk drivers too. Therefore, they have a stake in this deadly issue.

Thus, common sense dictates, a mega ton weapon is as deadly – if not more so – than any weapon of choice. As such, it behooves exploring the discrepancies of legal treatment, between those who drive drunk (irrespective of the actual physical damage), and others who attempt to inflict harm with another weapon of choice.

Regardless of the outcome of their crimes, and whether or not people die as a result, the fact of the matter is that drunk drivers are treated less like criminals (which they are) than their counterparts, chiefly by dint of their weapon at hand. The song and dance tends to go…the poor, tragic, misguided drunken fools.

Oh really? Who are these bleeding hearts kidding? Certainly not the wounded or dead, nor the families left behind.

As a result of these misguided fools, drunk drivers are often given slaps on the wrist, and at times sent home to sleep it off.Occasionally, they spend a night in the drunk tank, or must endure the ‘inconvenience’ of a weekend in a jail cell. That ought to do the trick. Hardly.

Most egregiously, their pithy ‘punishment’ is, at times, the temporary revocation of driving privileges (never mind that there is no inherent Constitutional – or other qualifying – right to drive…one must earn it), albeit for a defined time limit. However, a person charged with intent to do bodily harm with a weapon, is rightfully met with the force of the law. Say what?

Doesn’t the above notion of so called punishment, for driving a tonnage of metal while fully crocked, veer off into crazy-land, thereby, eliciting a mockery of ‘justice’? Yes, it does. But tragically, it is the way many western countries deal with an alcoholic’s addiction – as a pity fest. Oh me…oh my.

Why should any of this matter? In a nutshell, society is ill served when those who have demonstrated a propensity to inflict bodily harm on others (for whatever reason), and even ultimately death, are coddled by the system. Besides, whose interests does it serve? Certainly not those in the path of a careening, mega tonnage of metal.

Moreover, would heroin, crack or duly addicted folks be allowed to get away with driving under the influence of their drug of choice, almost as if its effects were nothing more than too much partying? Doubtful. But when it comes to the drunk driver, all reasoning is rendered two sheets to the wind. Why is there such a discrepancy between one and the other? Aren’t the effects potentially the same?

Besides, the wreckage in the alcoholic’s wake travels a wide swathe, with the end point in between twisted metal, as innocents are mowed down, but only due to their decision – to get behind a wheel drunk! This op-ed writer/blogger evidenced said underpinnings, in a featured article at The Jewish Press. And its target audience is the Jewish community, regardless of locale. .

Pity for the drunk driver – always an alcoholic – comes at the expense of those who are either their actual victims, or potential ones, as they leave incalculable human destruction in their path. Thereby, justice (for the victims) is always denied.

Time to stiffen the penalties. And those who continue to mete out said miscarriages of ‘justice’ should either be forced to buck up, or be stripped of their societal obligations to render verdicts!

In other words, an act of war, by the world’s most dangerous regime to overall peace, was treated as nothing more than a political football to be played at will. IF that does not spell a world disaster-in-the-making, in relation to Barack HUSSEIN Obama’s inability to secure US/western interests, NOTHING will suffice.

That being said, pussyfooting around with a genocidal regime will indeed have catastrophic consequences, even as the Pyromaniac-in-Chief continues his jaw-jaw. And it is not as if Israel’s decision-makers will sit on their hands, for another 4 years, in order to appease Washington and the mullahs. Not at all.

‘Iranian attack on US drone – payback for Khartoum bombing’ – DEBKAfile Intelligence

“Washington was taken by surprise by the attack on an unarmed American MQ-Predator drone over the Persian Gulf by two Iranian SU-25 jet fighters, which only came to light Thursday, Nov. 8, after a week. The newly-reelected President Barack Obama and his advisers had assumed they were heading in a quite different direction, to very important direct talks with Tehran on its nuclear program and other Middle East affairs, including Syria.
But there was no mistake. Less than 24 hours after the event, Iranian Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi confirmed that two warplanes had indeed fired shots at an American drone on Nov. 1. He claimed the unmanned aircraft he entered Iranian airspace, challenging the Pentagon statement that the Predator based in Kuwait was on a routine surveillance mission in international air space. The drone was not hit.

This was the first Iranian attempt to shoot down an American aircraft over the Persian Gulf and also the first by a Revolutionary Guards Air Force fighter jet. Until it happened, Iranian fighter aircraft were not known to have the ability to down an American drone or that its pilots had been trained for this kind of mission.
Had they succeeded, Tehran would have accounted for its second US drone in the space of a year, after downing and capturing intact an American Sentinel loaded with surveillance gear.
Whereas the Obama administration has set its face toward diplomatic dialogue with Tehran and was therefore taken aback by this sudden act of aggression, the Iranians have a different take on the coming negotiations.

First of all, they have no interest in the short, fruitful process compressed into three months sought by Barack Obama (as DEBKAfile’s exclusive sources disclosed Thursday, Nov. 8), but have every intention of dragging it out over many months.

Neither is Tehran amenable to what it suspects are Israeli covert operations against Iranian targets carrying on in the course of its talks with Washington.
Iran and Sudan charged Israel with responsibility for the Oct. 24 bombing of the Yarmouk factory complex near Khartoum that manufactured Iranian missiles. It was implied that Iranian missile engineers lost their lives in the raid, which Israel has never acknowledged.
DEBKAfile’s military sources note that if Israel did indeed attack the Khartoum factory on that date, it would have coincided with the large-scale Austere Challenge 2012 war game American and Israeli forces were conducting at the time. They were practicing defensive measures against a simulated Iranian ballistic missile attack, bringing into play the most advanced US radar facilities posted in the Middle East and Europe, including the US X-band radar stationed in the Israeli Negev.
Iran took it for granted that if Israel was responsible for the Khartoum operation, it must have been with the knowledge of US Middle East commanders, the war game chiefs and Washington.
During September, ahead of the war game and the attack, Tehran twice warned that American targets would pay the price for an Israeli strike against an Iranian interest.
On Sept. 3, the warning came from Iran’s Lebanese proxy, Hizballah’s Hassan Nasrallah. He said: “The response will not be just inside the Israeli entity – American bases in the whole region could be Iranian targets.”
The same warning was repeated on Sept. 23, by the Revolutionary Guards Air Force commander Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh.
And on Nov. 1, Iranian fighters shot at – and missed – an unarmed American drone. This may be seen as payback for the Israeli assault on their missile plant in Sudan. It may also be Tehran’s warning to Washington to hold Israel back from any covert acts of sabotage if it desires negotiations with Iran.”

“Three card monte at least affords the subject to actually choose a card after being deceived. In this game played by the State Department, the cards are shuffled and removed before the subjects have the opportunity to even flip them over.

Enter the State Department. According to Foreign Policy’s The Cable, the State Department is making documents relative to the Benghazi investigation, available to Senators for two days only and, coincidentally, those two days are at a time when there are no Senators in town.

Via Foreign Policy:

“We are currently in the process of gathering and reviewing record responsive to Congressional requests. Our efforts have already identified a large volume of potentially responsive records that address the security situation leading up to the attack,” State Department Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs David Adams wrote to Kerry on Nov. 2 in a letter obtained by The Cable.

“To facilitate your committee’s work, we want to offer you and other members of the committee the opportunity to review these cables and memoranda. This set of material contains classified and other sensitive information… Mindful of these concerns, the Department is prepared to make copies of these documents available for the committee’s in camera review.”

One senior GOP Senate staffer told The Cable that State is only making the documents available for senators and committee staff to view today and tomorrow, which won’t actually allow the members to prepare for the hearing. Staffers for committee members are also not allowed to see the material.

“Funny since no member is in town,” the aide said. “The timing and limited access clearly demonstrates the administration cares more about playing politics with the tragedy than accepting responsibility.”

Committee members Bob Corker (R-TN) and Johnny Isakson (R-GA) sent Clinton a letter Nov. 2 asking that the documents be sent to the committee, not just made available for viewing on a limited basis.

It is indeed interesting that Hillary Clinton appears to be assuming a position similar to one Attorney General Eric Holder assumed in Fast and Furious – obfuscation and stonewalling in an attempt to run out the clock. Again, House Speaker John Boehner essentially stayed in the shadows when it came to Fast and Furious. It’s time for him to step out, front and center, over Benghazi-gate and show solidarity with the leaders of the House committees that need to be able to rely on him for leadership.

‘Election over but Benghazi-gate not going anywhere; Hillary invited to testify at House Committee hearing’ (video embedded)

“Beleaguered Attorney General Eric Holder is reportedly giving serious consideration to not returning for a another stint in the Obama administration’s second term. Operation Fast and Furious – probably more than anything else – is likely responsible for Holder openly wondering if he has ‘gas left in the tank’. Ever since the death of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, Holder has been taking endless political fire over the botched gun-walking operation.

If Fast and Furious is Watergate on steroids, Benghazi-gate is Fast and Furious on steroids and while Barack Obama won a second term on November 6th, the Republicans retained control of the House and that body’s relevant committees don’t appear to be backing down when it comes to Benghazi. The hearings are being scheduled.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee has scheduled an open hearing for next Thursday on the Libya terror attack and has invited Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to testify, Fox News has learned.

The committee joins two others planning to hold hearings, albeit closed ones, that day.

Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the consulate in Benghazi. A local Libyan extremist group is suspected of carrying out the attack, but the Obama administration has been criticized for its confusing explanation for the strike and for security warnings that apparently weren’t heeded.

The House Intelligence Committee will hold its closed hearing on the attack on Nov. 15, Fox News has learned. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, CIA Director David Petraeus and Matt Olsen, director of the National Counterterrorism Center, are expected to testify.

Additionally, as you’ll see in the interview exchange below, between Fox News Channel’s Bill Hemmer and Rep. Jason Chaffetz – who sits on the House Oversight Committee – the Benghazi hearings are likely to dog Barack Obama in a way not all that dissimilar from how the Fast and Furious hearings dogged Eric Holder. Ditto Hillary Clinton if the Secretary of State decides to stick around.

It remains to be seen if House Speaker John Boehner, who gave the perception that he wanted Fast and Furious to go away (he even scheduled the contempt vote against Holder on the same day that the Supreme Court ruled on Obamacare), will have the courage to press Obama on Benghazi. There are indeed courageous Republicans on various House committees who are willing to do so.

“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he could approve the use of military force against Iranian atomic assets with or without backing from other governments, the New York Timesreported on Monday.

Netanyahu has repeatedly warned his country could launch an armed offensive if sanctions and diplomatic outreach fail to resolve fears over Iran’s suspected pursuit of a nuclear-weapon capability. Tehran maintains its atomic ambitions are strictly nonmilitary in nature.

“When David Ben-Gurion declared the foundation of the state of Israel, was it done with American approval?” Netanyahu told Israeli Channel 2 TV in remarks aired on Monday. “If someone sits here as the prime minister of Israel and he can’t take action on matters that are cardinal to the existence of this country, its future and its security, and he is totally dependent on receiving approval from others, then he is not worthy of leading.”

“I can make these decisions,” he said.

The remarks were certain to intensify long-reported friction between Washington and Tel Aviv over how to address the nuclear standoff, though President Obama has affirmed Israel’s prerogative to determine how best to ensure its security, according to the Times. It was unclear if the prime minister’s comments were a pledge of action or primarily intended to prompt additional financial and political action against Tehran by other governments, the newspaper said.

“I am not eager to go to war,” Netanyahu stated. “I have been creating very heavy pressure, and part of this pressure comes from the knowledge some of the most powerful nations in the world have that we are serious. This isn’t a show, this is not false.”

Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert separately said Netanyahu was “spitting in [Obama’s] face” and “doing anything possible to stop him from being elected president of the United States.”

“What’s all this talk, that we will decide alone on our fate and that we won’t take anybody else into consideration?” Olmert asked. “Can someone please explain to me with which airplanes we will attack if we decide to attack alone, against the opinion of others — airplanes that we built here in Israel? With which bombs will we bomb, bombs that we made by ourselves? With which special technologies will we do it, those that we made by ourselves or those that we received from other sources?”

The prime minister responded: “If what I just heard is that on this matter which threatens our very existence, we should just say, we should just hand the keys over to the Americans and tell them, ‘You decide whether or not to destroy this project, which threatens our very existence,’ well, that’s one possible approach, but it’s not my approach.

“My approach is that if we can have others take care of it, or if we can get to a point where no one has to, that’s fine; but if we have no choice and we find ourselves with our backs against the wall, then we will do what we have to do in order to defend ourselves,” said Netanyahu, whose nation is widely accepted to be the only nuclear-armed state in the Middle East.

Tehran might have averted the possibility of an immediate offensive by moving to render some of its 20 percent-enriched uranium into a form less easily converted to bomb fuel, but specialists said the material can be altered to its prior state until it is transferred into an operational atomic system,Reuters reported on Monday.

Iran says the higher-enriched uranium would fuel a medical research reactor, while other governments contend the substance could allow for faster production of weapon-grade uranium of about 90 percent purity.

A Western diplomat said returning the uranium to its more weapon-ready gaseous form “would take a bit of time, but not more than a month or two, using technology the Iranians have already demonstrated that they have mastered.”

Still, Iran’s production of powdered uranium oxide using the higher-enriched uranium “could help us buy some time for diplomacy,” said a second international relations insider in Vienna, Austria.

Former State Department analyst Mark Fitzpatrick said “the conversion to oxide is relevant because it demonstrates that there is a civilian purpose for the 20 percent product and because the time for reconversion would have to be factored into the breakout scenario.”

The specialist said “it would not be practical for Iran to make a dash to produce weapons starting with enriched uranium that is in oxide form.”

Iran’s recent uranium move might signal an openness to resolving the atomic dispute diplomatically, said Mark Hibbs, a senior associate with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

“The problem is that Iran has a history of making voluntary concessions and then pulling back from those concessions” he said. “They do this again and again.”

Iran appears to be ramping up a campaign of computer-based strikes and other moves in reaction to a U.S.-Israeli clandestine campaign incorporating similar elements, Reuters reported separately on Tuesday. The most significant actions possibly instigated by Tehran include the launch of an unmanned aerial vehicle into Israeli territory, according to the news agency; the device — said to have been operated by Hezbollah in Lebanon — was shot down by Israel close to the country’s Dimona atomic site.

Iran has sparked fear among certain U.S. observers by markedly increasing its electronic attacks, Reuters reported. An October offensive against gas shipping sites in Qatar and the Saudi petroleum firm Aramco rendered tens of thousands of computers inoperable and represented the most elaborate computer strike to date against an independent firm, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said. He did not explicitly attribute the move to Tehran.

“The cyber attacks and Hezbollah drone both represent an escalation from the Iranian camp,” said Ariel Ratner, a one-time State Department insider under the Obama administration. “But a lot of what is going on here is a matter of signaling to each other.”

The possible Israeli aerial bombardment of an armament production site in Sudan could be one such communication, according to Reuters.

Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis head Bilal Saab said “Israel is flexing its muscles militarily and also sending a message to Tehran and Washington that it will not hesitate to use force to defend itself.”

“It was a show of force meant to send political messages and achieve precise and immediate military objectives, those being the prevention of Iranian shipment of sensitive hardware to its proxies,” Saab added.

Meanwhile, one official said the United Kingdom might deploy additional forces in the United Arab Emirates as part of a potential regional force buildup targeting Iran, the London Telegraph reported on Tuesday. The insider said the possible step would support a call in the U.K. Strategic Defense and Security Review for a “flexible network of allies to deal with different threats.”

“We need the courage to give these sanctions time to work,” British Prime Minister David Cameron told the National newspaper in remarks quoted on Monday. “But I’ve also made clear that if Iran makes the wrong choice, nothing is off the table.”

Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations Mohammad Khazaee, though, said the U.N. nuclear watchdog’s concerns are based on “some forged reports and … graphs which are not credible.”

“One may easily conclude that such information is as credible as the childish cartoon that was drawn here in this hall on September this year by the notorious Zionist regime’s prime minister,” Khazaee stated, referring to Netanyahu’s address to the U.N. General Assembly.

The official said “Iran … is fully committed to its legal obligations, and its nuclear activities are, and have always been, exclusively for peaceful purposes,” Reuters reported on Monday. Iran believes the establishment of comprehensive capabilities pertaining to atomic reactor material is an “inalienable right” under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, he added.

“The application of a discriminatory, selective, highly restrictive and politically motivated approach in nuclear cooperation … has given rise to this impression that being an NPT party is not a privilege, because rather than facilitating, it impedes nuclear cooperation,” Khazaee said.

Elsewhere, Tehran would end shipments of unrefined petroleum to other countries if it comes under additional Western economic penalties, Iran’s Fars News Agency quoted Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi as saying on Monday.

“The lack of Iran’s oil in international markets would lead to increase in its global price,” he said. The European Union has adopted a ban on purchases of Iranian petroleum and the United States has taken other actions against Tehran’s oil sector.

A deputy for European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton commended steps by Australia to increase financial pressure on Iran, the Sydney Morning Herald reported on Tuesday.

The “ball is in the Iranian court” in light of a recently submitted set of trust-boosting proposals aimed at initiating new multilateral discussions, Helga Schmid added. Senior Iranian diplomats have met three times this year with counterparts from the six countries — China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States — in an effort to address the nuclear standoff.

Resolving the impasse through diplomacy remains the chief priority, according to the official.

‘It is not only about Israel. It is, of course, a threat to Israel, but basically it is a very huge destabilizing factor for the region, and it would lead to a nuclear arms race in a part of the world that is already running very high in tensions — this is our concern,” Schmid said. ”I cannot say now what will happen next … we have made a very good offer, a confidence building package which should be quite attractive to Iran. It is now for Iran to respond.”

Iranian atomic efforts were among the subjects addressed in a meeting between Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and British Foreign Secretary William Hague, the Australian Associated Pressreported on Tuesday. During a discussion with French President Francois Hollande, Gillard reportedly reaffirmed her government’s support for “strong sanctions” targeting Tehran, according to a separate AAP report.”
