Once again, I do not pretend to be a soothsayer-far from it-but I do stake a claim to reality based thinking/analysis. Therefore, my June 28, 2012 commentary ‘Tzedek, Tzedek Tirdof….Justice, Justice You Shall Pursue’ finds unquestionable support from the following article today at Israel National News –http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/157403.
Entitled, ‘Life Sentence Means Until The Next Kidnapping’ it exposes the cruel unvarnished reality behind Israel’s much exhorted strategy of deterrence. Its conclusions are backed up by comprehensive statistics, which flies in the face of the actual underpinnings of strategic deterrence within a western based democracy. The tactics employed by Israel’s leadership renders their strategy moot. A dead letter. I knew as much, even when I still lived in the US (back in 2007), as evidenced by one of my many op-eds on the subject –http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/7296.
Most intrinsically, Israel’s leaders have basically ignored the critical recommendations of the Shamgar Committee , a panel set up to ensure that lopsided (terror) negotiations do not harm Israel’s interests, examining whether they should even be conducted in the first place! Its essence can be found here-http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_article.php?id=2523. Besides, civilized nations generally do not negotiate over the release of terrorists!
When a leadership, for any reason, releases mass murderers, including those who slit children’s throats, kill pregnant women, and exalt in their Jew-killing, suffice it to say, the crazies are the ones who allow them to ever walk free again.
