Those of us who operate below the mainstream radar, aka within the “alternative media”, have their champions and detractors. And this is what it means to live in a free society. There is an implied contract; one is free to disagree, but without the threat of political axes hanging over ones head. In other words, there should be zero  tolerance for “cease and desist” – or else. On the other hand, if one lives within the confines of third world basket cases, chiefly under the boot of red/green regimes, well, watch your back. Good luck with that.

But it is not as if truckloads of evidence haven’t been visible to the leftward media, regarding the chilling effect brought to bear by Obama Inc’s minions (of which the media is paradoxically part of), demonstrably ordered by a POTUS gone wild. Of course, they are as pure as the driven snow, or so they opine.

‘IRS officials in Washington were involved in targeting of conservative groups’

Internal Revenue Service officials in Washington and at least two other offices were involved with investigating conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, making clear that the effort reached well beyond the branch in Cincinnati that was initially blamed, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.

IRS officials at the agency’s Washington headquarters sent queries to conservative groups asking about their donors and other aspects of their operations, while officials in the El Monte and Laguna Niguel offices in California sent similar questionnaires to tea-party-affiliated groups, the documents show.

IRS employees in Cincinnati told conservatives seeking the status of “social welfare” groups that a task force in Washington was overseeing their applications, according to interviews with the activists.

Lois G. Lerner, who oversees tax-exempt groups for the IRS, told reporters Friday that the “absolutely inappropriate” actions were undertaken by “front-line people” working in Cincinnati to target groups with “tea party,” “patriot” or “9/12” in their names.

In one instance, however, Ron Bell, an IRS employee, informed a lawyer representing a conservative group focused on voter fraud that the application was under review in Washington. On several other occasions, IRS officials in Washington and California sent conservative groups detailed questionnaires about their voter outreach and other activities, according to the documents.

“For the IRS to say it was some low-level group in Cincinnati is simply false,” said Cleta Mitchell, a partner in the law firm Foley & Lardner who sought to communicate with IRS headquarters about the delay in granting tax-exempt status to True the Vote.

Moreover, details of the IRS’s efforts to target conservative groups reached the highest levels of the agency in May 2012, far earlier than has been disclosed, according to Republican congressional aides briefed by the IRS and the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration ­(TIGTA) on the details of their reviews…….

‘GOV’T OBTAINS WIDE AP PHONE RECORDS IN PROBE’

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department secretly obtained two months of telephone records of reporters and editors for The Associated Press in what the news cooperative’s top executive called a “massive and unprecedented intrusion” into how news organizations gather the news.

The records obtained by the Justice Department listed outgoing calls for the work and personal phone numbers of individual reporters, for general AP office numbers in New York, Washington and Hartford, Conn., and for the main number for the AP in the House of Representatives press gallery, according to attorneys for the AP. It was not clear if the records also included incoming calls or the duration of the calls.

In all, the government seized the records for more than 20 separate telephone lines assigned to AP and its journalists in April and May of 2012. The exact number of journalists who used the phone lines during that period is unknown, but more than 100 journalists work in the offices where phone records were targeted, on a wide array of stories about government and other matters.

In a letter of protest sent to Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday, AP President and Chief Executive Officer Gary Pruitt said the government sought and obtained information far beyond anything that could be justified by any specific investigation. He demanded the return of the phone records and destruction of all copies.

“There can be no possible justification for such an overbroad collection of the telephone communications of The Associated Press and its reporters. These records potentially reveal communications with confidential sources across all of the newsgathering activities undertaken by the AP during a two-month period, provide a road map to AP’s newsgathering operations and disclose information about AP’s activities and operations that the government has no conceivable right to know,” Pruitt said.

The government would not say why it sought the records. Officials have previously said in public testimony that the U.S. attorney in Washington is conducting a criminal investigation into who may have provided information contained in a May 7, 2012, AP story about a foiled terror plot. The story disclosed details of a CIA operation in Yemen that stopped an al-Qaida plot in the spring of 2012 to detonate a bomb on an airplane bound for the United States….read the whole thing, but don’t be sidetracked by the nonsense spewed by Obama Inc., that they were only going after leakers of national secrets.   2. Obama had to know about the warrantless wiretapping of AP phones. It’s inconceivable that he and Holder didn’t know. The MSM is shocked to find that they are not trusted Obamaphiles. I do wonder how long that outrage will last. Or will the press be like the battered wife and return to the batterer? Color me cynical, since the deaths of an ambassador and 3 other Americans in a terrorist hellhole didn’t move them. Nor did the other outrages he’s committed.

    On the IRS targeting of conservative groups: Steven Miller has resigned, per Jack Lew’s request. So now it will be old news and time to move on. In other news, Organizing for Action, Obama’s group, still hasn’t filed for tax status.

    On Benghazi: the White House Benghazi emails have been released, although heavily redacted and apparently missing the critical dates of 9/11/12 – 9/12/12. I haven’t looked through them all.

  3. Adina your essays are one of few that are calling out the situation as it is.

    Sadly there seems a total lack of will for anyone in congress to actually do anything. I think Boehner is actually working with the obama administration. He and most of the republicans have been turned as has supreme court justice Roberts.

    I don’t know where that leaves the free world. Israel is one of the last beacons of freedom but the leftist have a strong foothold there as well.

  4. I favor the view of those today who were saying this series of four major scandals, which are all attacks on freedom and liberty, have only scratched the surface and much more will be coming out as the days go by.

    For instance, 500 different entities have been mistreated by the IRS and the list is growing. It is likely the AP “journalists” are not the only ones whose phone recorders were scanned. Benghazi is the real killer – deaths actually occurred due to the regime’s malfeasance. And the EPA scandal is heating up with allegations of government intimidation of natural resources group.

    There are a million laughs – according to David Axelrod, the Kenyan Communist could not have been involved because he is to passive and detached, i.e. incompetent. And this evening The Lightgiver showed how “tough” he is by accepting the resignation of a temporary IRS commissioner who was leaving in two weeks anyway.

    Some people need to go to jail. If he is not impeached, which he should be, these vicious assaults on liberty should mean the death of the entire political agenda of The Indonesian for the rest of his term.

    For some time I have been called “paranoid” by some liberal acquaintances (I hestitate to use the word “friends) for saying “there is something rotten in the state of Obama.” Now, they don’t say much except “Well, maybe he has a good explanation for all of this.”

    I doubt he will lose the media. AP disclosure is like the media have discovered lipstick on the collar of their boyfriend, but LUV him so much they are waiting for an explanation, no matter how unbelievable.
